Presentation

The Comité National des Traditions Monégasques embodies the Principality's living memory, working since 1924 to preserve, transmit and promote Monaco's cultural heritage. Founded by representatives of Monaco's ancient families, this historic committee's mission is to keep alive the civil, religious and linguistic traditions that are part of the Monegasque identity.

A true guardian of the Monegasque language, the Committee offers courses, publications and awareness-raising initiatives to ensure that this heritage is passed on to future generations. It also supports cultural initiatives, folklore groups and associations that help to promote local traditions. In addition, it is committed to preserving works, documents and objects that bear witness to the past, thus playing an active role in safeguarding tangible and intangible heritage.

Among the traditions revived by the Committee is the "Pan de Natale", the symbolic Christmas bread blessed at midnight mass and shared with the family, a powerful expression of the values of peace and faith. This unifying gesture, born of Provençal customs, has found an emblematic revival in Monaco.

The Committee also plays an advisory role for institutions and citizens wishing to perpetuate the cultural rites, traditional festivals and customs that shape the Monegasque identity. It regularly organizes events, workshops and exhibitions, testifying to the richness and diversity of the local heritage.

Committed with passion and authenticity, the Comité National des Traditions Monégasques is an essential pillar of the Principality's cultural life, combining respect for the past with dynamic transmission.
